MONK STRAP

Said to have been developed by an Alpine monk in the 15th century and worn throughout European monasteries, this style gained popularity in the 1920s. Many are unaware that the Monk Strap shares similar fitting qualities and construction with a Derby shoe. You could think of the Monk Strap as a modern-day Derby of sorts.

Featuring open quarters, a whole-cut vamp, and an integrated tongue, Monk Strap shoes (both single and double buckle) offer remarkable comfort. However, they do not provide the same level of adjustment as lace-up shoes due to the absence of laces.

The construction process of a Monk Strap follows a sequence similar to that of a Derby. The inside and outside quarters are stitched to a tab point on either side of the vamp, and the tongue is cut as part of the vamp rather than being a separate component.

This style is a timeless classic in the footwear tradition of HK & Shoes & Egypt, blending elegance with superior comfort.
